Six Dog Training Tips that
Should Work for Any Dog
Do you feel all alone in your quest for an obedient dog? Well, you
are definitely not alone! Millions of people want a well-trained
dog. Some hire a trainer or find a good school. But
what if you cannot find a school or teacher that is a good fit for
your dog? You can train him yourself. After all, no one else
will know your dog better than you. There are a few training
tips you should know that actually should work for any dog that is
being training.
Just remember that perseverance is important. Your dog is
not trying to be malicious when it makes mistakes. It takes
time to master commands. However, with patience you and your
dog will enjoy a great experience and develop and even better
relationship than what you already have now. And with these
six training tips, you can be sure to have a successful time of
it:
Training Tip #1 – Do not start when your dog is
distracted. That is setting you both up for failure.
Capture his attention. A small treat and some kind words
typically help matters. When both of you are focused, your
training session will be more successful.
Training Tip #2 – Ensure that you have the
proper supplies before you start training. If you plan to use
a training collar, measure your dog’s neck to find the correct
size. Ask a sales professional at your local pet store about how
long and what type of leash you should use in training. If you plan
to incorporate treats and toys into your training plan, purchase
these in advance.
Training Tip #3 – Introduce the commands like
sit, stay and down. These are especially helpful in social
situations and traveling situations like in a car or truck.
These commands will help them stay safe.
Training Tip #4 – Potty train your dog at
regular intervals. This will prevent accidents in your
home. The key times to take him outside for relieving his
bladder and bowels are before bedtime, when they first wake up,
after naptime, and immediately after each meal. Crate training is
one method that might help your potty training cause.
Training Tip #5 – Schedule regular play times
with your dog. Not only will this strengthen your bond, but
it will also loosen both of you up so that you are both relaxed for
training sessions. It’s healthy too!
Training Tip #6 – During dog training, keep
your sessions short. Take breaks. And when you have to
reprimand your dog, use a firm voice but do not yell or get
physical with him. Not only does it accomplish nothing but it
also may scare him.
Ask another person and you will likely have a different set of
tips for training your dog. Each person will have a certain
aspect that they want to focus on more over others. For
instance, if a dog suffers from separation anxiety, you will want
to focus on that. Or if you have small children, you want to
ensure that your dog will act appropriately around them.
